• Eco-Exploration provides an exciting educational adventure for 5th -8th graders. The URI greenhouses is the site for this exploration of the adaptations of plant life to DESERT, TROPICAL and AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS.

  • The Learning Landscape invites elementary school groups to explore the soils, water, plants, and wildlife of the Rhode Island environment. Children visit our goldfish pond, extensive flower beds, mini-orchard, and greenhouses.

  • Eco-Exploration includes tours of our
greenhouses and hands-on investigations of interesting and unusual plants.

  • Children participate in hands-on activities throughout our gardens.

In the Learning Landscape, children may examine birds' nests and mammal skins, sieve soil to examine the particles, feel composting worms squiggle about on their hands, and taste and smell herbs and vegetables from our raised beds, and learn about IPM.
  • Students will discover:
how plants survive in the desert ecosystem for up to a year without a drop of water...why plants in the tropical rain forest ecosystem have drip tips...where plants grow without soil...and much, much more.
