Discovering Food Safety: Detective Mike Robe's Fantastic Journey
( Preschool Students)

This six lesson curriculum is designed to provide preschool students with an understanding of basic food safety principles. The lesson topics include personal hygiene issues and the food safety relationship between time and temperature to control microbial growth. Mike Robe, the character who narrates the video, encourages children to assist him in solving food safety problems. The curriculum includes a teaching outline and narrative. The supporting resources included are age appropriate games, activity sheets and puppet shows. A one-hour parent program, five newsletter articles, and a ten-minute Mike Robe cartoon video are also part ofthe package. Cost-$60.00

(2nd and 3rd Grade Students)

The goal of this six-lesson curriculum is to provide students with an understanding of basic food safety. The lesson topics include preparation and storage, microbial growth, the time and temperature relationship of food handling, and personal hygiene. A ten-minute cartoon video is included in the curriculum package. Supporting resources include age appropriate matching activities, word searches, and puppet shows. Cost-$60.00

 

Detective Mike Robe's Fantastic Journey Interactive CD
(Grades 3 - 5)

This interactive CD focuses on basic concepts of food safety including the causes and prevention of foodborne illness. Each of the four units includes interactive learning activities designed to reinforce food safety principles presented in the CD; opportunities for students to engage in writting activities and food safety resources which may be printed and taken home. Cost $20.00

 

 

Food Safety Education Community Service Learning Curriculum

The goal of this curriculum guide is to provide educators with the tools to implement and evaluate a food safety education program. The curriculum includes two volumes. The first volume provides guidance and support for individuals who want to integrate food safety learning into their curriculum. The second volume is a complete Teacher's Guide. This includes a series of fact sheets on food safety issues, community service learning concepts, lesson plans, student activities, overheads, and community service learning forms. The Teacher's Guide is photocopy ready. Cost-$50

 

Food Safety Training for Volunteer Food Service Workers: Looking for a Safe Harbor

The goal of this curriculum package is to provide community based organizations with materials and resources to train volunteers who engage in food preparation activities at public events. Included is a teaching outline for training volunteers and a humorous ten-minute video. This video focuses on the five major causes and prevention of foodborne illness. A log book is included for record keeping that includes basic food safety concepts. All participant resource materials are photocopy ready. Cost-$35
