2003 Field Day Highlights:

  • Creating your dream landscape: step by step - a 2 hour workshop on landscape design and installation by Frank Crandall and his landscape team from Wood River Evergreen, from 10:00 - 12:00. Includes landscape design, hardscaping, night-lighting, lawn renovation and much more.
  • Garden makeover - watch a garden makeover in action throughout the day - includes construction of a split rail fence with a special workshop on split rail fence installation at 12:30
  • Win a makeover for your own garden valued at $2,250 and support renovation of the URI greenhouses by buying a GreenShare raffle ticket - on sale at the Field Day
  • Purchase a Soilsaver compost bin ($25 versus $79 retail) sponsored by RI Resource Recovery
  • Compost demonstrations ongoing to show you how to use your new bin
  • Bring your garden questions, plant problems, plants to be identified - experts on hand throughout the day to help!
  • Enjoy all day cooking demos, garden tours, workshops, plant sales and activities for kids and music (see below for details)

10:00 - 12:00: Creating Your Dream Landscape: Step-by-Step, Frank Crandall and associates, Wood River Evergreens. (This workshop will include 4 speakers with different expertise including landscape planning and design, plant selection, garden lighting, hardscaping and installation, lawns (seed vs. sod, renovation, etc.) and landscape maintenance.)

  • Ask an Expert - pose your toughest gardening questions to members of RINLA (the RI Nursery and Landscape Association) - staffed by the best horticultural professionals from throughout southern New England
  • Ask a Master Gardener - for information on all your garden challenges
  • Master Gardener Plant Sale
  • Free soil pH testing (bring a soil sample) - bring a cup of soil and pick up results before you leave the Field Day
  • Perennials - Ask the experts about your perennial garden - special focus on perennials for fall color
  • Lasagna Gardening Demonstration- Learn about an innovative, time-saving technique for creating new garden beds
  • Water Gardens- Where to begin in your backyard
  • Greenhouse tours - tour the newly-renovated tropical conservatory
  • Vendor plant sales & educational exhibits - Clark Farms, Holly Ridge, The Good Earth, Teaberry Gardens and other nurseries and garden centers will have samples of their best products on sale at the event
