Kindergarten Readiness and What Parents and Caregivers Can Do

PARENTING TIP - #16

Parents and caregivers can develop Kindergarten Readiness skills without turning their centers or homes into formal classrooms and without turning themselves into academic teachers.  There is absolutely no evidence that formal instruction at an early age has any lasting academic advantages.  The preschool center should focus on a rich variety of activities and materials that encourage young children to explore and discover rather than force feed academics.

Following is a list of areas of concentration for parents and caregivers who want to help their child to be "ready" for Kindergarten.
