GLOSSARY
Asterism - a group of stars that make up a special shape.
Cluster – A cluster is a group of something. A star cluster is a group of stars in a region of space that are close together.
Constellation - one of the 88 regions to which the sky is divided.
Eons - a very long period of time!
Globular Cluster – A globular cluster is a group of old stars that are very close to each other and together are in the form of a sphere. A sphere is in the shape of a circle.
Gnome - A gnome is a dwarf of folklore who lives inside the earth and guards precious ore or treasure. A gnome of space and astronomy lives in space and guards all the precious stars.

Leap Year - A year that has 366 days in it instead of 365. An extra day is added to the month of February for no other reason except that it's our shortest month. A leap year happens every four years.
Observatory - a place equipped for astronomical observation and other forms of natural phenomena.
Open Cluster – An open cluster is a group of young stars that are close to each other.
Orbit - the path an object takes when it revolves around another object. An example is when a planet orbits the sun or when a moon orbits a planet.
Solar System - a solar system consists of a sun with celestial bodies revolving around it.
Solar Year - a solar year is determined by how long it takes and object to completely circle a sun.
Tiled - used in the context of this web site, tiled means to repeat a pattern.
Unaided (or Naked) Eye - observing the sky only using natural eyesight without the use of binoculars or telescopes.
Universe - all created things and phenomena viewed as constituting one system or whole.
Zodiac - an imaginary region in the heavens that encompasses the paths of all the principle planets except Pluto. (That figures, there's always 'one' exception). This region is divided up into 12 parts. Each part is used for one of the 12 zodiac constellations.
