Do you know what famous picture this is?
Look at the dark shape just to the right of the big bright star.
It's called the "Horsehead Nebula" and it really does look like a horse's head -
doesn't it?
What's a nebula?
A Nebula is created from the dust and gas that is left in space after a
star explodes.
EXPLODE? Can you imagine that? Did you know stars could explode?
They sure do!
The patterns the dust and gas form are how nebulae (plural for nebula)
get their names.
That same dust and gas is also what new stars are created from.
