Easter falls on a different day each year. How is the day for Easter determined?

Have you ever heard someone say, "Easter is late this year"? Or, "Easter is early this year"? Most people know that Easter falls on a different day of the year every year, but do not know or have forgotten why.

The reason it falls on a different day each year is because it is determined by astronomical calculations and they tend to vary. Sound hard? Not really. Are you ready?

The day for Easter will fall on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal equinox (remember that?). The day of the the Vernal equinox is March 21st. You can take it from there. Check your calendar - if it shows which day the full moon will fall on, you will be able to find Easter as the first Sunday after it.

So, the day for Easter can vary within a 3-week period, which is why some years it's "early" and some years it's "late".

See? Told you it wasn't hard.
