Does the Sun set?

Well, yes and no. WHATAYA mean "yes" and "no"? How can that be?

Well, it depends on where you live on Earth. If you live way up around Alaska and the North Pole, and Antartica, the Sun "never" sets. If you live anywhere else on the Earth, it always sets.

But what does it mean to "set"? Well, it's used to describe the exact moment when the sun actually goes below the horizon.

But keep in mind that the sun itself does not move its location in the sky. It "appears" to move because the Earth is always rotating. It dips below your horizon when the Earth has rotated enough to turn  your day into night. Everyone has a different horizon, and everyone sees the sun set at a different time. Your horizon is different from the person that lives an hour away from you, or just a half hour, or even 15 or 10 minutes (even one minute if you really want to get picky!).

So, does your Sun set? Let's hope so. Sleeping when the sun's out is kind of tough.
