Many livestock owners in
Rhode Island raise their animals on relatively small acreages
that are close to neighbors and water resources, especially
private drinking water wells. Many have limited land and
equipment, which create challenges with manure and animal
management. Interviews with livestock and horse owners,
URI 4-H and Water Quality Program members, and other experts
highlight the importance of best management practices that
protect our drinking water, families and animals.
