SoilChracteristics.lyr This layer is intended to be used with the SoilCodes join layer or the MANAGE aml. It allows the standard color coding of a combination of Seasonal High Water Table (SHWT) and hydogroup data. This color scheme is often utilized in the MANAGE method. To use this layer add it to the desired ArcView project and then set the layer data source to the desired file (under layer Properties). Under the legend section, the legend should be using the CE_Soils column of the data file as a reference. See MANAGE technical documentation (page 10) for further information on the creation of the CE-SOils column. Data should automatically be coded in the correct colors. The legend groups data in the following categories. CE_Soils cATEGORY (SOIL DRAINAGE AND DEPTH TO WATER TABLE) COLOR AD OR AU VERY RAPID, 6FT pINK BD MODERATE, >6FT LIGHT GREEN BM MODERATE 1.5-3.5 FT LIGHT YELLOW CD SLOW, >6FT LIGHT ORANGE CM SLOW, 1.5-3.5 FT ORANGE CS, DS SLOW/WETLAND 0-1.5 FT RED 0U, CU,DU,VARIABLEU VARIABLE/NO DATA GRAY Notes: CE_Soils: the first letter inidates the soil hydrogroup. Soil hydrogroup provides an indication of drainage. 'A' soils drain rapidly, where as 'D' soils drain slowly and are generally considered wetland soils. Additional information on soil hydrogroup is located on the RI NEMO website at: http://www.uri.edu/ce/wq/NEMO/Tools/soils.htm The second letter indicates the depth to the Seasonal high water table and is coded according to the table below. More information on Seasonal High Water Table (SHWT) is located on the RI NEMO website at: http://www.uri.edu/ce/wq/NEMO/Tools/soils.htm Code Depth to SHWT and description S Shallow, 0-1.5 ft. M Moderate, 1.5 – 3.5 ft. D Deep, > 6 ft.
