Developing Treatment Standards

Performing a Needs Assessment

Use readily available data such as RIGIS land use data and RI HEALTH public well data.

Evaluate pollution risks to groundwater from onsite systems and other sources. Indicators could include:
  • Estimated Nitrogen inputs to groundwater recharge
  • Septic systems per acre
  • Developed riparian buffers
  • Soil suitability
  • Parcel sizes

  • Evaluate environmental constraints:
  • Steep slopes
  • Buffers to water bodies or wells
  • Determine suitability for onsite wastewater treatment.

    Identify community wastewater management options.
