Academic
Difficulties
PROBATION and DISMISSAL
You must maintain a 2.00 GPA, or C average in order to remain in
good standing and to graduate from URI. If your grades fall below
a 2.00, you will be placed on probation and may be eligible for
dismissal. If youre put on probation, you should work closely
with your advisor to select courses in which youll do well
while making progress toward your degree. Your first obligation
is to get academically healthy. Deb Carroll can help with course
selection, as well as project your grades while the semester is
in session.
LATE DROP OF A COURSE
It is difficult to drop a course after the drop deadline unless
you have evidence of an extenuating circumstance like a death in
the family or a serious medical problem. The Scholastic Standing
Committee, chaired by Deb Carroll hears all appeals. You are not
required to furnish any more evidence of your circumstance than
you feel comfortable supplying, however the burden is on you to
build your case. The later in the semester you appeal, the more
difficult it becomes to do so.
SCHOLASTIC STANDING COMMITTEE
The Scholastic Standing Committee hears all student appeals such
as late drops, general education appeals, dismissals and readmission
if a student is not in good standing.
