Please check the ecampus advising system to find out who your advisor is. A phone number and office location should be listed in ecampus. Please contact your advisor to set up an appointment. If you do not have an advisor listed in ecampus for your major please contact your major department secretary to ask who your advisor will be.

I can't register for classes. Why?
There may be a number of reasons, but it is usually because you have a sanction on your record. Sanctions are imposed for a variety of reasons, among which are owing money to the University (including the Library, lab breakage, etc) and health (vaccination history). See Enrollment Services for details.

I left URI some time ago and want to return. How do I do it?
Fill out a Readmission form (the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services both have them) and bring or mail to the Office of Student Affairs. You will be contacted to set up a re-admit appointment. When your application for readmission to the College of the Environment & Life Sciences (CELS) has been approved, the Office of Enrollment Services, (401) 874-9500, will ask you to make a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to be applied toward your term bill and will provide you with details regarding registration. Once your deposit has been paid you will have term status and can register for courses through URI's online student ecampus records system.

I have a dispute with a professor over my grade. What do I do?
Start with the professor. The problem may be as simple as a computational error. The professor can change the grade and will go through the Office of Student Affairs to do so. If you are still unresolved and have exhausted communications with the professor, your next step is to approach the Department Chair. Student Affairs staff are available to assist you with the process.

How do I change majors?
It is always best to meet with an academic advisor to discuss your options when you are considering changing your major. After you have met with the appropriate advisor you can fill out a change of major form and submit it to the Office of Student Affairs, Woodward Hall, room 138.

I want to declare a minor; how do I do it?
Minor forms are located in Woodward Hall, room 138. To declare a minor, a student must have the approval of the Department Chair of the minor field of study and the dean. Application for the minor must be filed in the academic dean's office no later than in the beginning of the student's final semester or term.
A minimum quality point average of 2.00 must be earned in the minor courses, and at least 12 of the 18 credits must be numbered 200 level or above. Minor courses may not be taken on the pass-fail basis. Click here (link to our undergraduate major/minor list) for a list of some possible minor options.

Transfer credits - I have transfer credits that haven't been posted to my transcript. What do I do?
You can either hand deliver or send an official transcript from the school to:
The University of Rhode Island
CELS, Office of Student Affairs
Woodward Hall, Room 138

If you hand-deliver the transcript, it must be unopened!
Your grade report is not sufficient; we need an official transcript.

Transfer credits - I don't understand why some courses transferred and others did not.
Only grades of C or better will transfer. Also, we transfer only college-level courses. Algebra and trigonometry, for example, are not considered college-level courses.

Transfer credits - I don't agree with how the course was originally evaluated. What do I do?
Students can request to re-evaluate transfer credit. Students must provide a course description to the appropriate Department Chair and bring the completed form to the Office of Student Affairs, Woodward Hall, room 138.

What is an override, and why do I need it?
An override is your 'ticket' into a course. If you want to get into a course that is closed or requires instructor approval, you can try to obtain a permission number from the professor who teaches the course. Have the instructor fill it out and then submit that form to Enrollment Services in Green Hall. An override is also needed when enrolling in a course puts a student over the maximum number of allowed credits. Bring the completed form to the Office of Student Affairs, Woodward Hall, Room 138 for the Dean's signature and then submit the form to Enrollment Services in Green Hall.
