GreenShare Program
Dave Hughes, Coordinator
GreenShare provides an umbrella for a wide range of programs aimed primarily at landscape horticulture professionals. This group comprises growers, landscapers, and retail garden center workers – though a few of the programs are occasionally available to the general public as well.
The goal of GreenShare is to provide accurate, research-based information on management of healthy urban and suburban landscapes. The information is presented in a variety of formats, ranging from classroom lectures to twilight meetings for growers.
The guiding principles of all GreenShare programs are Integrated Pest Management (IPM), sustainable landscaping, and pollution prevention. GreenShare advocates use of native and pest-resistant plants to minimize pesticide use and to reduce risks associated with exotic invasive plants.
GreenShare programs are a cooperative effort utilizing staff from the Outreach Center plus faculty and staff from the Departments of Plant Sciences, Natural Resources Science, Landscape Architecture and other departments in the College of the Environment and Life Sciences. GreenShare programs are also coordinated with the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association (RINLA) and scientists from other Land Grant Universities.
