URI staff, Master Gardeners, and RINLA volunteers have converted a little-used research garden into a showcase for low-maintenance, disease- and insect-resistant plants. Formerly known as the Learning Landscape, the URI Botanical Gardens provide a training laboratory where Green Industry professionals, scientists, students, and the general public may see and learn about sustainable plants and sustainable landscaping techniques. GreenShare hosts many educational events in the gardens, which feature disease-resistant turf, trees, and shrubs; a mini apple orchard; an organic vegetable garden; a children’s vegetable garden; a sustainable rose garden; perennial beds and annual beds.
