Styphnolobium japonicum (Sophora japonica)

Japanese Pagoda Tree

Formerly Sophora japonica. Deciduous tree with 6-10” long bright green compound leaves. White pea- type flowers are borne in large 6-12” panicles flowering in August. Seed pods are persistent into late fall. Marginally cold hardy until over 11/2” caliper. Prefers moist, loamy well-drained soil, tolerates pollution. Full sun. 40-60’ x 40-50’.
