Ulmus rubra

Slippery Elm

Large tree with vase-shaped to upright habit. 5-6” bright green rough serrated leaves are pale beneath. Twigs and bark are reddish brown. Prefers moist rich soil but will tolerate dry calcareous soil. Full sun. Can become weedy in disturbed areas. Native to RI. 40-60’ x 30-40’.
