| Welcome to the Plant Biotechnology
Laboratory at the University of Rhode Island Formed in 2002, by directors Dr. Albert Kausch and Dr. Joel Chandlee, the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory at URI (PBL) was founded to offer relevant contemporary research experience in genetics, molecular biology, plant transgenics and agricultural biotechnology, to high school, undergraduate, graduate students, and educators. This is accomplished by introducing students to both theory as well as relevant research in plant biotechnology. The PBL also works to develop educational resources and has collaborated on projects with several major universities and corporations to develop, introduce, and characterize transgenic cassettes in several different plant species (ex. rice, maize, soybean, turfgrass, switchgrass, Arabidopsis.) Opportunities are currently available for motivated students to gain research experience while contributing to current projects in plant biotechnology. Collaborations and contract transformation services are also available through the PBL. This site is currently under development.
