Dr. Roheim's research program broadly covers the area of seafood marketing and international trade in fisheries products. Most recently a focus has been on consumer demand for seafood from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture production, or ecolabeled seafood, and changes in trade policies on the sustainability of fisheries and practices in aquaculture.
She served as President-Elect then President of the International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade from 2004-2008; Editor of the journal Marine Resource Economics from 1995-98; and won the College of the Environment and Life Sciences Teacher of the Year award in 1998.
Through the years, Professor Roheim has served as an advisor to industry, environmental groups and those engaged in promoting sustainable seafood. She served on the Marine Stewardship Council Stakeholder Council from 2000-2007; as its co-chair from 2006-2007 and on its Board of Trustees from 2006-2007.
Dr. Roheim is currently the Director of the URI Sustainable Seafood Initiative, a effort intended, through its research and outreach, to help educate retailers, processors, the fishing industry, policy-makers, environmentalists, academics, consumers, and anyone else interested in the issue of sustainable seafood on the various approaches being used to promote demand for sustainable seafood and the efficacy of those approaches.
