Dr. Uchida’s research interest is in understanding the microeconomic decisions in supply and demand for ecosystem services and how producers and consumers respond to market-based mechanisms for ecosystem services, especially in developing economies. She is conducting research in both China and the U.S. and utilizes household surveys, spatial data, econometric and numerical methods. Her recent research includes 1) understanding demand for farmland ecosystem services and designing a market for ecosystem services; 2) examining the cost-effectiveness of China's incentive mechanism to provide ecosystem services and its impact on poverty; and 3) finding efficient management of multiple forest stands when they jointly produce ecosystem services.
