The Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics was recently ranked the fourth most productive research department in the country.

Resource economists study interactions between economic and natural systems, with the goal of developing a sustainable and efficient economy. Our department focuses on issues related to the spectrum of natural resource and environmental management, with particular strengths in fisheries, the marine environment, associated coastal watersheds and terrestrial systems, and international trade.

We offer Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science Degrees in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, in addition to Undergraduate degrees in Resource Economics and Commerce and Environmental Economics and Management.

Our faculty are recognized national and internationally for thier work on a variety of issues including:

  • Management and marketing aspects of marine capture fisheries and aquaculture
  • Trade and the environment
  • Natural resource damage assessment
  • Land use preservation and management
  • Economic decision making
  • Demand analysis and forecasting
  • Valuation of non-market environmental goods
  • Experimental economics and policy simulation
