All papers submitted to Marine Resource Economics for possible publication as articles are peer reviewed in a double-blind process. The editorial staff strives to maintain a timely turn around on submitted manuscripts. Contributions to Thalassorama are reviewed by the editor. (Thalassorama is Greek, meaning "view of the sea.") Thalassorama contains contributions, from the contributing editors and others, on interesting issues and events related to marine resource economics. These contributions present material worthy of wide circulation which do not lend themselves to longer and more rigorous articles.
Instructions to Authors
Submitting Manuscripts for Consideration and Review
Manuscript. Email a pdf of your manuscript (all identifying information removed) and a separate pdf of the title page to the journal's technical editor, Barbara Harrison: mre1@etal.uri.edu OR (but less preferred) mail four hard copies to: James L. Anderson , Editor, Marine Resource Economics , Dept. of Env. & Nat. Res. Econ., University of Rhode Island, 1 Greenhouse Rd., Kingston, RI 02881 USA.
Submissions should be clear and concise. Manuscripts will be accepted for consideration with the understanding that their content is unpublished and that the work is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. All parts of the manuscript, including the title page, abstract, tables, and legends should be prepared in English and double spaced. Submissions should be typed on one side of white paper. Allow margins of at least one inch (3 cm) on all sides of the page. Pages must be numbered consecutively throughout. Do not use section numbers.
Title. Must be as brief as possible and clearly represent the contents of the work (6 to 12 words). Authors should also supply a shortened title suitable as a running head, not to exceed 50 characters (including spaces).
Author Affiliation. Include the full name(s) of author(s), academic, and/or professional affiliation(s) (including professional title[s]), as well as the complete mailing address and email addresses for all authors. Indicate the corresponding author and provide the fax number.
Abstract. Each paper should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 150 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract.
Keywords. Supply 3 to 10 keywords or phrases that identify the most important subjects covered by the paper. Ex : Key words Beach erosion control, choice based conjoint analysis, individual specific welfare estimates.
JEL Classification. Please select the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) classifications that best reflect the subject matter of your work. For a complete listing of JEL classification categories, go to: www.aeaweb.org/journal.html . The selection should appear on the title page of your paper. Ex : JEL Classification Codes Q26, H41.
Formatting. Use character formatting that can be performed on single characters or words (i.e., italic , bold , subscript, superscript, etc.). Do not use other special features (ex., auto footnote placement, table editors, etc.).
Mathematical Notation. Avoid using an equation editor if equations can be expressed by the word processing program. Use symbol font whenever possible. For complex notation, MRE prefers the use of Microsoft Word's Equation Editor or MathType® by Design Science ( http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/ ). Equations should be centered on the page and numbered at the right margin; i.e., (1)
Figures. Place each figure on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Each figure must be discussed or mentioned in the body of the manuscript and numbered in order of mention. Ex: The net cost is depicted in figure 1.
Each figure must be centered, numbered, and have a brief title below it: Ex:
Figure 1. Average Monthly Fish Prices ($/fish)
Do not place boxes around your figures. Camera-ready hard copies of the final figures must be provided to the technical editor with the final electronic version of the paper.
Tables. Place each table on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Use double spacing and no vertical lines. Each table must be centered, numbered, and have a brief title above it: Ex:
Table 1
Participation Model Results
Briefly define all data in the column heads. Each table must be discussed or mentioned in the body of the manuscript and numbered in order of mention. Ex: A qualitative summary of the results from the studies described above is given in table 1.
Footnotes. Footnotes should be double-spaced and placed at the end of the manuscript. Use Arabic rather than Roman numerals.
References. Citations within the text must include author name(s) and the date in parentheses; i.e., Smith, Jones, and Carter (1993) or (Anderson 2001). Use et al . in the text only when four or more authors are cited. Do not use et al . in the reference list. Alphabetize the reference section and include all text citations. Arrange in chronological order. Follow these examples:
Journal article:
Harrison, Barbara S. 1984. Fisheries regulation under uncertainty. Marine Resource Economics 12(3):193-98.

Permission to Reprint. If any figure, table, or more than a few lines of text from material previously published in MRE are included in another manuscript, the author must obtain written permission for republication from the copyright holder (MRE Foundation, Inc.) and forward a copy to the publisher. Contact: Barbara Harrison, mre1@etal.uri.edu to request such permission.
Data and Documentation. Data sources, models, and estimation procedures are expected to be documented to permit replication by other researchers. Data used in the analyses should be made available to other researchers for replication purposes. The editor should be informed at the time of submission whether, if for legal or proprietary reasons, these requirements cannot be met. Submission of appendices, model documentation, and other supporting materials is encouraged to facilitate the review process.
Page Charges. As a non-profit Foundation, a major source of financial support for this journal is a page charge of US$60/printed page, or fraction thereof, payable by the authors' supporting institution or granting agency. Payment does not affect the decision to publish.
Reprints. An order form and price scale for ordering reprints will be sent to the corresponding author with the page proofs. Reprints are not available after publication of the issue in which the article appears.
Electronic Disk/Email Submission. Accepted manuscripts must be transmitted via email to mre1@etal.uri.edu The final version cannot be submitted in pdf format. Text should be created in popular word-processing format for ease of manipulation for publication. MRE prefers Microsoft Word®. We cannot accommodate TeX-based files.
Transfer of Copyright . A signed transfer of copyright must be sent with your final version of the manuscript and can be found here:
