The Environmental Sciences Research and Training Opportunities Program (RTOP) is offered through a consortium of institutions of higher education and provides training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate student scientists. Funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL), this program is a reflection of EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) strategy to promote diversity in the work environment through the development of a diverse work force. This program aspires to:

  • Inspire, train & support the next generation of environmental scientists
  • Increase and diversify the candidate pool for future employment in the Environmental Sciences
  • Support training opportunities consistent with the current environmental and ecological research objectives at NHEERL's Ecology divisions
