Undergraduate Fellowship Opportunities


Beginning June 1, 2003, the Atlantic Ecology Division (AED) of the U.S. EPA National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL) in Narragansett, RI, will support undergraduate students to conduct research related to the AED's research priorities, listed below. The fellows work jointly with scientists at the AED lab and with their major professor at the home institution.

Undergraduate projects will be supported only at the AED in the following areas:

Project 1: Bioavailability & Diagnostics--position filled for FY2003

Diagnosis of Ecological Impairments to Estuarine and Marine Water Bodies

Project 2: Aquatic Stressors -- position filled for FY2003

Estuarine Health using Juvenile Fish and their Habitats

Project 3: Population Ecology -- position filled for FY2003

Anthropogenic Stressors on Wildlife Populations

Project 4: Wetlands Ecology--position filled for Spring 2004

Salt Marsh Habitat Quality

Project 5: Bioavailability & Diagnostics -- position filled for FY2004

Diagnosing Causes of Stress in Estuarine Environments

Project 6: Monitoring and Assessment -- position filled for FY2004

Marine Environmental Monitoring

Project 7: Wetlands Ecology--position filled for Spring 2005

Depending upon federal budget availability, there may be opportunities at the other NHEERL Ecological Divisions in future years.

Non-duplication of Federal Work: Student fellowship research must support but not duplicate EPA work in progress. It is intended that the fellow will work in cooperation with an EPA scientist on his/her individual research.
