1. Education

Ph.D., 1974, University of South Carolina-Columbia (Geology)
M.S., 1972, University of Massachusetts-Amherst (Geology)
BA, 1962 , University of New Hampshire-Durham (Economics)

2. Research Interests:

I am primarily a field geologist specializing in coastal, braided river, and various glacial environments.  I have 35 years of field experience in New England, South Carolina, Alaska, Iceland, Saudi Arabia, Madagascar, Ecuador and Mexico. My current research interests focus on:

  • Coastal geologic hazards and management issues.
  • Long-term (years) beach changes.
  • Processes and development of barrier and headland shorefaces in glaciated terrain.
  • Geologic mapping of Quaternary (surficial) deposits
  • Late glacial and post-glacial landscape development.
  • Geotechnical aspects of highway construction through, and use of, glacial materials
  • Holocene stratigraphy of microtidal lagoons.
  • Geoarchaeology of  New England.

3. Courses:

1. Coastal Geologic Environments (GEO 277)
2. Introduction to Sedimentary Geology (GEO 450)
3. Glacial Geology (GEO 515)
4. Sedimentary Processes and Environments(GEO 550)
5. Coastal Geologic Hazards (GEO 577)
