Faculty: O. Don Hermes, D. P. Murray, J. Allan Cain

Collaborative Faculty: Jean-Guy Schilling, H. Sigurdsson, S. N. Carey (all at Graduate School of Oceanography).

  • Investigation of mountain-building events in the New England segment of the Appalachians.

  • Study of the dynamics of large-scale magma chambers, such as those of the Sierra Nevada.

  • Investigating the role of magma-mixing in the formation of granites.

  • Use of trace elements to characterize orogenic vs. anorogenic tectonic regimes.

  • Investigation of the metamorphism of carbonaceous materials.
