Although the university deadlines are quite broad, we encourage students to apply early! If you are applying for the Fall semester and wish to be considered for funding (teaching and research assistantship), your application should be complete before the end of January (September in case of a Spring semester application).

If you are interested in working with a particular faculty member, we encourage you to contact her or him directly to discuss your application and the availability of funding.

Finally, consider visiting us! A visit to our department is a great opportunity to meet the faculty and talk to current graduate students. You also get a chance to check out our campus and the beautiful southern Rhode Island beaches!

What happens next?

Once we have received all forms and your application is complete, we circulate it to all faculty members for review. This review usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. During the height of the Fall semester application season (January though March each year), the department convenes regularly to decide which applicants to admit to the program and how to distribute available funding (research and teaching assistantships). We strive to make admission a decisions by late February / early March in case of the Fall semester and November for Spring applications.

When we have made our decision, we make a recommendation to the Graduate School, which has the final word on every application (... but usually follows our recommendation). The Graduate School will then inform you of your admission status.

Again, if you have questions during any stage of the application process, please feel free to contact Dr. Boving. We look forward receiving your application.
