Vision |
|
Our
vision is to ensure equitable and
safe water resources in coastal areas
to promote health, the environment,
and sustainable development. Coastal
areas are broadly defined as the land
stretching from the coast to about
50 km inland. |
| Mission |
The International
Partnership for Coastal Water Resources
(IPCWR) is a collaboration of public,
academic, and non-governmental organizations
dedicated to the improvement of water
quality in coastal areas. Integral
to its mission is the implementation
of proven, cost-effective techniques
and water management solutions tailored
to the unique environmental conditions
of rapidly evolving coastal areas.
This is accomplished through interdisciplinary
scientific research, consultation,
training, education, and institutional
networking at the national and international
levels.
IPCWR provides strong
expertise in environmentally important
core areas, including:
- water resources management,
- water and public health,
- coastal processes and hazards
mitigation,
- water quality science,
- attenuation of groundwater overexploitation
and salt water intrusion problems,
- soil and groundwater remediation
and treatment, and
- coastal data management and access.
IPCWR capabilities
are well matched to its core areas
and include
- hydrogeologic characterization
and modeling for cost-effective
remediation and sustainable aquifer
management,
- design and implementation of sustainable
water treatment solutions for small
to midsize communities,
- coastal hazard mapping and vulnerability
assessment,
- water related public health assessment
and estimation of disease burden,
- environmental data management
and GIS,
- water quality analysis,
- community based strategies for
response to climate change,
- capacity building through public
education and technical training,
and
- environmental impact and risk
assessment.
|
| Objectives |
| The
major objective of IPCWR is to promote
equitable and safe water resources
development and remediation practices
by means of research, education and
training of government, non-government,
private and public, as well as academic
groups and individuals. Further, IBCWR
is actively seeking the collaboration
with other organizations to build
and strengthen internal and external
alliances and to create the capacity
to effectively influence and shape
the public discussion of its water
resources. |
| Goals |
| Our
principal goal is to facilitate planning
and executions of multi-year, sustainable
projects that provide opportunities
for developing a lasting partnership
between members of IPCWR and other
national and international groups
that share our vision
of equitable and safe water resources
development in coastal areas. |
