Two Positions at Well Tended Gardens

Well Tended Gardens designs, installs and maintains gardens in RI and nearby MA. We need to fill two positions as soon as possible.

1) Experienced gardener needed who can perform all aspects of plant care (except lawn and tree work) on properties mostly in South County. Prune, weed, plant, fertilize, identify and manage pests, deadhead, divide and transplant. Weekly visits to a regular customer list. Part time, approximately 3-4 days per week. March - December. Required qualifications:

  • Detailed oriented
  • Able to take direction from a garden supervisor or designer and also give direction to a helper
  • Must know what needs to be done to properly care for herbaceous and woody plants throughout the seasons.
  • Must be able to execute the given tasks correctly and in a professional manner.
  • Excellent time management and record keeping skills, verbal communication skills, and a positive customer service and team oriented personality.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Rhode Island Certified Horticulturist required
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator license required

2) General laborer required to assist gardeners with various heavy-lifting tasks including but not limited to digging, transplanting shrubs of all sizes, spreading mulch and compost, clean up job sites, basic pruning and other duties assigned according to abilities and willingness to learn. Part time now with more hours as season progresses. Minimum qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Facility with spoken English
