VERNAL POOL INVERTEBRATES
The invertebrate population of vernal ponds acts both as predator and prey to amphibians. Insects, both adults and larvae, are predators of egg masses, small tadpoles and salamander larvae. Whereas, adult amphibian populations depend on many species of aquatic invertebrates as a primary food source.
