BULLFROG AND GREEN FROG
A COMPARISON

BULLFROG

MALE GREEN FROG

Green frogs have a pair of prominent dorsal-lateral ridges that runs the length of its back. Bullfrogs lack these ridges.

In both species the tympanum (eardrum) on the male is larger than the eye.

Bullfrogs are the largest frog in North America.
Our studies Rhode Island found the average size of an adult female bullfrog to be 10.7 cm and a male bullfrog to be 9.2 cm.

Green frogs are typically smaller, averaging 7.6 cm.  (see SIZE data in species section).
