Welcome to the Department of Plant Sciences!

Research and Outreach. Our research and outreach programs will focus in three areas:

  1. Increasing sustainability of managed landscapes by developing plants with reduced maintenance requirements and by promoting environmentally-sensitive management methods including pest controls.
  2. Management of arthropod-vectored diseases of humans, concentrating on those vectored by ticks and mosquitoes.
  3. Management of invasive plants, insects, and pathogens.

Teaching. Our undergraduate teaching program prepares students for careers in ornamental horticulture and turfgrass management, and provide support courses in our academic disciplines for other undergraduate majors, including those preparing for advanced degrees. Our graduate teaching program provides traditional academic training in entomology, horticulture, plant pathology, and plant science, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and contemporary research techniques for the degrees of M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences.
