1st Year Living and Learning

All smiles: (l - r) Cathy Curtin-Miller, Dir., CELS Administration; Prof. David Bengtson, Dept. Chair, FAVS; and Jeff Seemann, CELS Dean, greet students in front of Browning Hall.  [ read this story ]

What if your living arrangements harmonized with your life goals and aspirations? What if you could live with a group of people who share the same passions as you? What if you could walk down the hall to speak to a faculty member?

Does this sound too good to be true? Take a look at the CELS First-Year Living and Learning Community, located in Browning Hall, and decide for yourself!

Living and Learning Communities (LLC) are located in designated residence halls and are intended to give students the opportunity to become part of a unique experience, with programs to support the interests of the community members. By being part of the LLC, first-year students will have the opportunity to experience a more personal and less formal way of learning!

Why would being part of the CELS Living and Learning Community be beneficial to me as a student and a person? Why would I choose to live in a residence hall with people who have majors similar to mine?

Benefits of living in the CELS First-Year LLC include:

  • Making new friends with similar academic interests
  • Learning success skills and strategies
  • Gaining an increased knowledge about your major and career options
  • Forming study groups and sharing learning experiences
  • Enjoyable and educational in-house programming/events
  • Personalized interaction with faculty
  • Guidance and support from CELS upperclassmen LLC students

Who is eligible to be a part of this experience?

If you are a first-year student with a major in the College of Environment and Life Sciences, you may be part of the LLC.

How can I be a part of the CELS First-Year Living and Learning Community?

When you receive your housing packet in the mail, Living and Learning Community information will be included.
