Biography
Joyce Wu teaches both Flagship and regular-track Chinese courses at URI. Before coming to URI, she taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the Middlebury College Chinese Summer School, and various levels of Chinese at UMass Boston. She also taught community interpreting at Boston University Metropolitan School and legal Mandarin at Boston University School of Law. She is certified by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) as an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) tester. She has presented at many national and international conferences, and is currently serving as a Board of Director for New England Chinese Language Teachers Association (NECLTA).

Research
Dr. Wu’s research interests include second language acquisition and pedagogy, proficiency-based teaching and assessment, learner factors in cognitive language development, computer-assisted learning and teaching, and linguistic and intercultural development in the studying abroad context.
