Camp Brochure (pdf)

The University of Rhode Island Music Department and the Community Music Program presents the eighth  annual exciting, creative, educational, and inspiring Summer Intensive Jazz Camp for students in grades 9-12 and up. (Younger/older students with ability are welcome to apply)

Jam packed with Big Bands, theory and specialized classes, combos, Master classes, and concerts, students will learn in an intensive, noncompetitive setting taught by URI's award-winning jazz and percussion faculty. Small class size enhances individual attention and focus on the student.

Classes will include theory, improvisation and ear training.  Master Classes in each instrument will be offered, featuring faculty artists Jared SimsDave Zinno, Steve Langone, Joe Parillo and others TBA. Faculty specializing in voice, piano, guitar, bass, brasses, winds and percussion/drum set will create a well-rounded instrumentation.

Each camper will be assigned to at least two ensembles which will enable them to work on many different styles.Drummers will play on a world of instruments in percussion ensemble.

Camp 2013 begins on Monday July 15th at 9:30am with a general meeting. Resident campers will move into Garrahy Hall Sunday evening, July 14th. Day campers will be dismissed at 5:00 pm daily. Camp ends with the final student concert on Saturday July 20th at 11:00am.

Application fee $30 ($50 after June 1st)

Tuition $550

Room and Board $525

New for 2013: all students* must send in an audition recording with non-refundable application fee of $30 to be considered for camp.

CDS DO NOT HAVE TO BE HIGH QUALITY RECORDINGS OR MADE WITH AN ENSEMBLE-WE JUST WANT TO GET AN IDEA OF WHICH GROUP YOU WILL FIT INTO.
