Programs
The URI CELS 4-H program is offering an exciting day for 4-Hers this spring at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. If your club has members or volunteers who wish to participate please fill out the registration form on the bottom of the page and return to Peckham Farm, URI, Kingston, RI 02881 by May 8th. This program is FREE FOR ALL 4-Hers and $5.00 for adults. Please include a check with registration form made out to RI 4-H Club Foundation for the adults who will accompany the 4-Hers into the Zoo.
Each 4-Her will attend one of the following programs and have a chance to walk around the zoo during the other time slot and after the formal program ends. There are self guided tours and educational materials that we can request or you can download to further the learning experience. Please plan on bringing a bag lunch or having the youth bring money to buy lunch. The program is inside, so it will be rain or shine.
Rainforest Adaptations 10:00AM
Every habitat offers challenges to wildlife that must be overcome, and the rainforest is no different. Students will act out the layers of the rainforest and identify the animals that live in them. We will also discus different adaptations that help these unique creatures survive in the habitat.
Wild Habitats 11:00AM
From freezing tundra to arid deserts, animals have managed to make their homes everywhere. Explore various habitats and the animals that call them home. Students will demonstrate examples of the adaptation living things use to survive in their habitats.
Checking in the day of the Program
Only those that pre-register on time with the 4-H office can attend the sessions and get into the Zoo for Free. We will meet and check at the main gate of the Roger Williams Park Zoo at 9:30 A.M. You will not need to pay an additional admission fee as it is included in the program fee. Programs are held at the Meller-Danforth Education Center or in the Zoo Lab. Both buildings are located at the opposite end of the zoo from the main gate about a 15 minute walk, so plan to be on time and leave with the group.
