Postdoctoral Fellowship
Please Note: We will not be accepting any further applications for the postdoctoral fellowship position after April 25, 2008. In addition, due to recent budget cuts, we will only be able to offer one postdoctoral fellowship for the 2008-2009 academic year.
The postdoctoral fellow position is designed for an individual who is interested in working in a University Counseling Center, combining clinical work, teaching, and outreach. The fellow will be involved in delivering the full range of services to a college student population including intakes, psychological assessment, treatment, and consultation. There are also opportunities to provide supervision to graduate student trainees, to serve on search committees, and to develop and present psycho-educational programs to the larger community. Time, material and guidance will be provided for preparation for the licensing exam. Fellows will also be involved with our weekly training seminar and participate in individual and group supervision with licensed psychologists. The University of Rhode Island Counseling Center is a comprehensive university counseling facility with eight full-time clinical staff, two postdoctoral fellows, two support staff, and three to five graduate student trainees and/ or part-time clinical staff.
Successful candidates will have completed all professional doctoral degree requirements, including internship, in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or an equivalent psychology program from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. This is defined as having on the first day of the fellowship either the diploma in hand or a letter from the Director of graduate studies verifying the completion of all degree requirements pending institutional graduation. Applicants should have a strong interest and experience in serving a college-age population. Fellows will have the opportunity to focus their learning and service in such areas as eating disorders, prevention, or multicultural counseling. Previous counseling center experience is preferred. We are offering two one-year fellowships that start August 18, 2008 and carry a stipend of $29,000 plus health insurance, paid vacation, sick time, and additional support for professional development. University teaching opportunities for additional compensation may be possible.
