2012 URI Chinese New Year Celebration Tickets Sale Open Today!
Dear my friends,

Happy New Year!

As approaching of the Spring Festival, we invite you to join the URI Chinese New Year Celebration in this fantastic season.

This year we will have the reception in the Multicultural Center and have the performances in the Music Theater at Fine Arts Center. Fortunately, the Wenqin Arts Troupe from Zhejiang University, China, will also join us to celebrate the coming of the Year of Dragon.

Note: Because limitation of the reception site, we encourage you to come at different time, and leave for the theater early to select your seats and wait for the show.

CSSA's New Students Orientation Party (updated at 09-01-2011)

    On Sunday, September 4th, the CSSA will hold its one of the most important annual events -- New Students Orientation Party. We sincerely invite you to join us in welcoming these new students and scholars to experience a truly great beginning here at University of Rhode Island.

  • Date & Time: On Sunday, September 4th, 2011 4:00 PM

  • Location: At the entrance of Graduate Village, just in front of the mailbox.

  • Activities: CSSA New Student Orientation on URI Quadrangle, Kingston Caumpus tour, Free drink, refreshments and pizza will be served.

  • Fees: free.

  • Registration: Please send email including your name and contact information and with Orientation Party in the title to shuwen_zhang@my.uri.edu by 7:00 PM Friday September 2nd. Please also let us know if you can be volunteer(set table, take photos, clean up, etc.).

  • This Orientation is a great opportunity for new students to get to know senior students as well as fellow new students. If you have any question, feel free to email us at yihai_zhu@my.uri.edu. We hope to see you there.

Safety Notice!

  • Part I:
    1. If you just get driving license, you'd better avoid the highway; Don't use cell phone when driving; Don't drive when you're tired; Take safety belt even you're on the back seat.
    2. When you take travel agency, you'd better check its background and insurance option.
    3. When you organize the activities, you'd better understand whether they are dangerous and whether the participants have insurance.
    4. Keep your eyes open on crime.
    5. Escape unnecessary danger.
    6. Keep good relationship with your supervisor, department and university; Notice your words! Take "Isolation Order" seriously!
    7. Keep good relationship with Chinese. The policemen on campus are real!
    8. Keep good relationship with foreigner. Respect the culture diversity.
    9. Keep yourself healthy physically and psychologically.
    10. Keep your recipes when shopping.
    11. Keep contact with your family.
    12. Keep the copies of important certificates. Don't borrow your ID, or passport.

About CSSA of URI

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association at University of Rhode Island (URI-CSSA) is an officially registered, non-political, non-profit university organization.

Students and Scholars who identify themselves as Chinese (no matter how you look like) living in the URI community are automatically eligible for its membership.

 The goal of URI CSSA is:

  • To promote communication and cultural exchange among Chinese, American, and all other nationalities in the URI community.

  • To enrich the lives of its members on campus by organizing various activites.

  • To help the new students or scholars in every possible way to make their transition into a new environment smooth and easy.
