CVE 354 Structural Engineering

This course is an introduction to structural analysis, statically determinate systems, trusses, beams, frames, influence lines, deflections, conjugate beam, energy methods, statically indeterminate systems, force method, slope deflection, and moment distribution.

CVE 355 Structural Engineering Laboratory

The use of computer programs in structural analysis. A “teaching” type software program and “professional” type software program will be used.

CVE 560  Structural Design

This course is designed to expand the knowledge of students on advanced topics of reinforced concrete and introduce concepts of prestressed concrete.  Advanced topics in reinforced concrete include limit state and ultimate load theory in flexure, shear, torsion and compression.  The behavior and design of structural elements including deep beams, corbels, columns and two-way slabs are covered.  Concepts of prestressed concrete include partial losses in prestress and long-term effects due to creep, shrinkage and steel relaxation, service and ultimate load evaluation of pre-tensioned and post-tensioned beam elements in flexure, shear and torsion.
