Undergraduate Program
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
offers a curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.) degree. The Master of Science in
Civil and Environmental Engineering (M.S.), and the Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Ph.D.) degrees
are also offered by the Department. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for
Engineering and Technology (ABET)
The curriculum provides the students with an excellent background to pursue graduate study or to enter directly into professional practice in industry or government after graduation. Students have flexibility in developing their own programs to meet their professional goals through the selection of electives in environmental engineering/water resources, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, and construction management.
A unique element of our program is the award winning capstone course sequence. Students work in teams during the senior year, carrying out all tasks that a professional civil engineering firm would perform while designing a major project. Student "companies" are provided with office space in the newly upgraded Senior Design Studio where they complete their projects and present their work in front of panels of professional engineers.
International Program
Students can join the International Engineering Program (IEP) which is a five year program leading to a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and a B.A. degree in a foreign language. Currently there are three language options: German, French and Spanish. A similar program in Chinese is under development and until it is fully implemented students receive two minors in Asian Studies and Chinese Language along with their B.S. in Civil Engineering degree.
Under the IEP program students spend one semester of their junior year abroad working with local engineering firms and one semester studying in a local partner university. The IEP option includes all courses required for the standard B.S. degree plus foreign language requirements.
For additional information consult the International Engineering Program (IEP).
