
What are accommodations?
Accommodations are adjustments or changes that allow the student with a documented disability to have equal access to university programs.
Accommodations are determined case-by-case and are based directly on current documentation of disability and the documented need for the requested accommodation.
Accommodations could entail (but are not limited to): (Also see note at bottom of page)
Program accommodations:
foreign language course substitution
reduced course load with full time status
priority registration
Transportation accommodations:
wheelchair accessible van (for eligible students only; call 874-2098 for details)
30-day temporary medical parking permit (to facilitate application for temporary state parking placard)
information & referral to RI Department of Motor Vehicles for temporary and permanent parking placards
coordination with RI Public Transportation campus shuttle
coordination with URI Parking Services
Housing accommodations:
wheelchair accessible rooms
single rooms
rooms adapted for deaf/hard of hearing occupants
Course accommodations:
tape recorded lectures
notetakers
books on tape/reader
sign language interpreters
CART reporters
physically accessible classrooms
Exam accommodations:
extended time on exams
private, quiet testing space
alternate exam format (case by case only)
Adaptive equipment & software:
FM assistive listening devices
Closed Circuit TV Text Enlargers
JAWS for Windows
MAGic (screen enlarging software)
Naturally Speaking
Kurzweill 1000/Kurzweill 3000
