Student and Faculty Rights and Responsibilities
“The key to compliance with disability discrimination laws is balancing the rights of disabled individuals with the institution’s desire to preserve the integrity of its programs.”
(Heyward, 1993)

All students have certain rights and responsibilities as they strive to obtain a college education.
They expect the institution, its staff, and its faculty to honor those rights – for example, providing a reasonable amount of time to study for a test.
Likewise, all students must uphold their end of the agreement -- for example, attending classes on a regular basis.
Students with disabilities have some unique rights and responsibilities in the educational process.
Faculty wanting support in accommodating students with disabilities can contact a Disability Resource Mentor on campus.
