The websites listed below are links to quality medical dictionaries. While all are good resources, the National Library of Medicine site is non-commercial in nature.
  • 4Woman.gov - This is part of the National Women's Health Information Website. It is an indexed list of dictionaries, glossaries, journals, and related professional publications.
  • Aetna InteliHealth - This website is sponsored by Aetna and the definitions are from the Merriam Webster Medical Dictionary. It also provides consumer-friendly health information on conditions and diseases.
  • American Academy of Family Physicians - This Web site is operated by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), a national medical organization representing more than 93,700 family physicians, family practice residents and medical students. Provides over 1,300 searchable medical terms.
  • MedicineNet, Inc. - This specific link is to a comprehensive medical dictionary, published by the authors of the Webster’s New World Medical Dictionary. Terms are appropriate for lay persons and are updated on a frequent basis.
  • National Library of Medicine Dictionary - The definitions are from the Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary. While this website is unbiased and noncommercial, the definitions and terminology are on a more medical basis, as compared to MedicineNet, Inc.
  • Online Medical Dictionary - This website provides definitions of medical terminology, medications, healthcare equipment, health conditions, medical devices, and medical abbreviations.
