Marine Engineers are the officers of a ship which operate, maintain, and repair the propulsion and electrical generation systems onboard a ship. They may also design and build such machinery. Lighting, air conditioning, sewage, and water systems are monitored as well. The Chief Engineer is in charge of the overall well-being of the ship in regards to these systems.

 

Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer, William Appleton has been working on the R/V Endeavor for over 25 years.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the main engine and all associated engineering equipment.

First Assistant Engineer

The First Assistant Engineer is responsible for watch standing and maintaining the main engine and associated equipment under the Chief Engineer. The First Assistant Engineer for the R/V Endeavor is Tim Varney.

Oiler

The Oiler stands watch, and conducts general maintenance under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. The Oiler for the R/V Endeavor is Wally.
