ROV/AUV

Hercules

Affectionally called ‘Big Herc’ this ROV was built for the Institute for Exploration in Mystic, Connecticut and designed for deep-water archeological scientific research. Hercules has been used in everything from studying geological and biological aspects of the ocean to participating in shipwreck recovery. Being specially equipped to gather a variety of data at depths up to 4,000 meters with a multitude of instruments that measure depth, pressure, salinity, oxygen concentration, and water temperature Hercules has proven to be a valuable research tool. The cameras mounted on Hercules are high definition video cameras, which provide scientists with high-resolution images. The amazingly dexterous and sensitive manipulator arms, allows the ROV pilot to perform tasks such as, grasping delicate objects and gently placing them in a holder to be brought to the surface.
