Joyce Gauvin is teaching 5th grade at Kevin Coleman Elementary School in Woonsocket. Joyce has a great interest in issues affecting our environment, including global warming and pollution. She incorporates these interests into her curriculum by inspiring her students to learn about and protect the world around them. As an example, last May Joyce and her class released approximately 600 trout at the Annual Trout Release day, showing her students that they can make a difference. As a Native American Council speaker, Joyce hopes to share her Rhode Island Teacher at Sea (RITAS) program experience with her students, as well as the public, and use it to help voice her environmental concerns.
