Thera Expedition Log: 4/26/06

At 9:30 am R/V Aegeao departed from the port Athens, to begin the Thera 2006 expedition. Our first stop was just north of the island of Milos to carryout a CTD (conductivity, temperature and depth) profile in the water column in order to calibrate the seismic profiling system. After
completing that task we proceeded towards Thera at about 11 knots. Along
the way we carried out swath bathymetric mapping using the ship's SEABEAM
system. The estimate time of arrival at the beginning of our first seismic survey line is about midnight. Technicians are currently making the seismic survey ready.

Weather conditions are excellent with fair skies and temperature of
about 65 degree. Seas are calm.
