ROV
diving continued today east of Thera on the large blocks on the seafloor.
We explored at least 6 large blocks that were up to 200 meters in
length. Additional samples were taken but we still had problems getting
samples from the harder parts of the blocks. Many of the blocks are
covered with a dark crust that turned out to be soft brown sediment
cemented together on the surface by some hard material. Sometimes
the crust had fallen away from the surface of the blocks and soft
pyroclastic sediment was exposed in the interior.
