Official Snow Delay/Cancellation Policy

The following policy and utilization of the final exam make-up day goes into effect only if the University officially delays or cancels exams. For the official delay or cancellation announcement check your University voicemail (4-5555), URI Emergency ALERT or call 874-SNOW (4-7669).

Kingston Campus

In order to reschedule final examinations due to inclement weather, a final exam makeup day was approved by the Faculty Senate and has been scheduled for Friday, December 23, 2011.  In the event that there is a delay due to inclement weather requiring cancellation of one of two exam slots or cancellation of all final exams, December 23 is the designated rescheduled date.

Providence Campus

Friday, December 23 is also the final exam makeup day for the Providence Campus.

Kingston and Providence Campuses

We realize that many students, faculty and staff have made travel arrangements well in advance of December 23. If faculty choose to do so, they may utilize “Take Home” exams or other assessment methods that do not require them to meet on-campus on December 23 with their students.

If faculty decide to utilize an examination method that will not require classroom time on December 23, they will need to contact their students individually regarding the faculty member's decision. Enrollment Services will assist students in contacting instructors by listing the course in the Exam Grid with the instructor name, email and campus phone number and the statement; “Contact Instructor.” We are not able to provide any other instructions to the student in this listing due to the potential for confusion and/or error.

In order to coordinate this efficiently, Enrollment Services will need information from all affected courses no later than 12:00 Noon on the following business day of the cancellation. In the event of cancellation or delay on Friday, December 16, notification must be made by 4:30 p.m. on the 16th.

If faculty need to offer an exam on Friday, December 23 or if they want to utilize a “Take Home” exam or other assessment method, please contact Ken Sisson at 874-4480/ Please be prepared to indicate instructor’s name, subject, course number, section, campus phone number, and email address. This method is one way we can ensure notification to all students regarding the faculty member's decision to change the examination method. We will also announce the need to check the online schedule for any additional instructions. We strongly encourage faculty to personally contact students through Sakai, a listserv, or other communication method that faculty have previously determined with their students.

Please note, if the University officially selects to use the December 23 Final Exam Makeup date, grades will be due Thursday, December 29 at 12:00 p.m.

Currently, grades are due by Wednesday, December 28 at 12:00 p.m.
