Waivers

In accordance with legislation passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly, individuals may be eligible for the following tuition waiver benefits. Please note that some restrictions apply.

  • Waivers are applicable for credit courses only. Audit fees are not covered.

  • Waivers are not applicable for courses assessed a flat course fee, or program fee. For example, waivers cannot be applied toward special programs fees, or study abroad invoices.

  • Waivers are not applicable to credit overload fees.
  • Waivers are not applicable to other standard required fees unless specifically noted.
  • Waivers may be reduced by financial aid scholarship/grant funds and/or merit-based tuition awards as noted below.

Unemployment Waiver

Individuals receiving unemployment benefits from the State of Rhode Island may be eligible for a waiver of tuition and the registration fee. All other required fees are the responsibility of the student and should be submitted with the waiver forms.

  • An original copy of Form DET-467 "Certificate of UI Eligibility" must be submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services. The form must be dated within 60 days prior to the 1st day of the semester for which it is being submitted.

  • An "Unemployment Means Test" must be submitted for eligibility determination. Appropriate Federal Tax forms and W-2 forms must accompany the Means Test.

  • Matriculated students are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before submitting a waiver.  The FAFSA, and any verification documentation requested by Enrollment Services, will be used to determine financial aid eligibility.  Scholarship and grant funds received will be used to defray the cost of tuition and will reduce the amount of the waiver award.
