In accordance with legislation passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly, Rhode Island residents may be eligible for the following waiver benefits. Please note that some restrictions apply.

Waivers are applicable for credit courses only. Audit fees are not covered.

Waivers are not applicable for courses assessed a flat course fee, or program fee. For example, waivers cannot be applied toward special programs fees, or study abroad invoices.
Unemployment Waiver
Rhode Island residents receiving unemployment benefits may be eligible for a waiver of tuition and the registration fee. All other required fees are the responsibility of the student and should be submitted with the waiver forms.

An original signed copy of Form DET-467 “Certificate of UI Eligibility” must be submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services. The form must be dated within 60 days prior to the 1st day of the semester for which it is being submitted.

An “Unemployment Means Test” must be submitted for eligibility determination. Appropriate Federal Tax forms and W-2 forms must accompany the Means Test.

Matriculated students are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before submitting a waiver. Scholarship and grant funds received will be used to defray the cost of tuition and will reduce the amount of the waiver award. (The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov).
Tuition Waiver for the Unemployed
Senior Citizen Waiver
Rhode Island residents that are at least 60 years of age may be eligible for a waiver of tuition. All other required fees are the responsibility of the student and should be submitted with the waiver forms.

A “Senior Citizen Means Test” must be submitted for eligibility determination. Appropriate Federal Tax forms and W-2 forms must accompany the Means Test.

Tuition Waiver for Senior Citizens
Disabled Veteran Waiver
Rhode Island residents with a Department of Veteran’s Affairs service-related disability of at least 10 percent may be eligible for a waiver of tuition. All other required fees are the responsibility of the student and should be submitted with the waiver forms.

Recently-dated evidence of Veteran status with a minimum 10 percent disability must be submitted.

Tuition Waiver for Disabled Veterans
Rhode Island National Guard Waiver
